I started my life afresh at 28. This is an age when girls in my Jain community have to get married and settled with a kid atleast. But, I chose to differ. I chose to travel and live the visions I used to dream. I chose to live my life and so can you. Take that one step in FAITH !
It all started with a CHANCE in 2013
I stepped into the world of solo traveling by chance. Possibly, the time when I was traveling on my own I wasn’t even aware that the social media boom is going to make it famous as solo travel. But, I was already doing it and I was happy traveling this way. My journey of traveling solo started in the year 2013 when one fine day I decided to quit my 8 years old corporate career without any plan or putting any thought to it. I just did it. Honestly, something in me kept telling to give up my mundane life, to experience something more fascinating in the outer world.
In the outer world when media would present a bad picture of India, I was convinced that I wanted to explore every part of my country and experience its real side. Deep down I knew that it is just a segment of it that gets highlighted and India cannot be just about it because that’s not what I know of my country. Post quitting my well paid job, I backpacked around India covering around 170 cities across 20 states in 1000 days. During this time, I went on many unplanned trips by blindly putting a finger on the map and deciding where to go next. It’s an experience in itself I must tell you. Honestly, the memories that I built during these seven years of continuous traveling still put a smile on my face. I feel very blessed to meet amazing souls on my journey which made it worth it
I traveled as remotest as Zanskar Valley in Ladakh and explored states on my own which were/still highlighted as unsafe for women. My seven years of travel journey has taught me that it is easy to live a happy and peaceful life. This is what humans were supposed to do on our planet earth. You just have to make that right choice
A chance taken and I am living my dream life now. But, my solo travel journey didn’t start easily. I had to rebel- A LOT ! I have been labelled and judged many a times by my immediate family and I had to deal with it. Coming from a conventional family where solo traveling has been unheard off, especially for a woman I had to face many challenges. There were many stereotypes I challenged as a Solo Woman Backpacker in India but today I feel proud that I could do it and experience the real beauty of this world, which many people are yet to experience. I still have challenges but it is way easier to handle now than it used to be
My Journey of Yoga and Vipassana Meditation
During this period I was also introduced to ancient practice of Yog (Yoga). Honestly, it just started as a mode to get back into shape but I ended up with an Advanced level Practitioner degree from Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga.
