Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is one’s in a lifetime experience but it is also true that doing Mount Kailash requires a certain amount of preparation. Both physically and mentally. Honestly, while I was doing my research for Kailash, there was information I wished I could find online, before going for the yatra. While I was going through the process of Mount Kailash, I could see that there are things that every person, coming for it, needs to know. This is the exact reason why I am penning down every possible detail because I want everyone to be aware of the correct things, which you shall need, in order to do Kailash Mansarovar Yatra

In this blog, I am going to share what are the documentation work that you would need for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra as well as the points you need to keep in mind, while clearing the China Immigration. Please read this blog carefully till the very end. I shall keep it as much detailed as possible
(Please Note: You can also check important Travel Tips for Kailash Mansarovar Yatra )
Now, let me share a couple of things for the documents of Kailash Mansarovar Yatra:
- This blog will help people who hold an Indian passport for the documentation work. People with other nationality might need to seek their travel agent’s help, to understand the complete procedure of Mount Kailash Yatra. It does require a certain amount of preparation. However, you can still read on how to clear the immigration. There can be an add on to the non- Indians here, probably
- Keep in mind that Chinese authorities are very particular about the documentation work and security checks. It is important that you listen to them and do not argue on anything. Please allow your guide or agency to handle it

How to get China Visa for Mount Kailash Yatra
- For Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, you need to apply for a group visa, which requires a minimum size of four people
- You will get the visa from Kathmandu which shall be applicable for thirty days
- You would need to submit the passport to your travel agency for atleast two weeks. That’s the usual time they take to process the China visa and permits for Tibet. Visa application is mandatory because you are not be allowed to travel in Tibet independently, according to the rules. Believe me, there are permit checks at every corner
- This visa is usually not placed in the passport. It is a sheet of paper which mentions the name of the people in the group followed by their nationalities, date of birth and passport number. This sheet remains with your group guide
- You cannot extend the group visa. All the members are required to enter and exit at the same time
Things to keep in mind to clear Chinese Immigration Process
As I mentioned earlier, please keep in mind that Chinese authorities are very particular about their documentation work and security checks. Therefore, please show patience and co-operate with them. However, please keep in mind the following things:
- Your bags are thoroughly checked. I mean they shall take out every single stuff from your bag to check and anything can just put them off. So, avoid carrying anything extra, except the basic necessary stuff
- Make sure that you make a proper travel kit to keep the personal stuff like the garments. Else, it can get a little embarrassing when during the security checks, the personnel keep these things in front of everyone.
- Please do not carry any picture of Holiness Dalai Lama anywhere, while clearing the Chinese immigration. No hard copy. No picture in your mobile phone and no book which carries his picture. You shall not be allowed to enter and will be asked to return right away. No convincing will work here
- Delete or log out all the social media application from your phone because you might just be asked to get it checked. Ideally, you should uninstall it from your phone before the immigration process starts to be on a safer side
- Seek your Travel guide advice on helping you with the camera and other gadgets that you might be carrying. Sometimes, they might create a problem
But, I would also like to mention that despite going through such tedious process of clearing immigration for Mount Kailash, I would still like to mention that Kailash Mansarovar Yatra remains one of the most cherished experience of my life. This is the exact reason why I can still talk or write about it. And I wish those who would to pay their homage at Lord Shiva’s abode, could do it
Also, please do let me know if you think I missed on anything. Would love to hear from you
