You know during all my years of traveling, I have come to learn one thing and that is- Keep expecting the unexpected because nature shades are such that it wouldn’t let you settle for anything ordinary. Only if you have eyes to spot it, though
If you have followed my Instagram series on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra, I have admitted it clearly that the trail of Mount Kailash is magical and honestly, my experiences have actually left me in awe of this sacred place. It has left me wondering on a lot of occasions that whatever I am seeing or witnessing here at Kailash Mansarovar Yatra is actually for real?

Let me tell you one such story of an unusual experience at Lake Mansarovar which I encountered on my pious journey of Mount Kailash yatra. Honestly, Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has remained one of the best experience of my life and I am grateful that I could get to do it so early in my life
Lake Mansarovar
The relevance of Lake Mansarovar is beyond anyone’s understanding. It is believed that Mansarovar Lake was first created in the mind of Lord Brahma, after which it was manifested on Earth. Hence it is called “Manasa sarovaram”, a combination of Sanskrit words for “Mind” and “Lake”.

In Hinduism, Lake Mansarovar is a personification of purity. It is said that the one who drinks water from the lake of Mansarovar, will go to the abode of Lord Shiva at Mount Kailash after death. They are cleansed of all the sins, committed in a hundred lifetime- A belief which has remained with us
My Journey of Lake Mansarovar on Mount Kailash Yatra
We could reach Mansarovar Lake by 1 AM only, as we got stuck in a series of Landslides, on our way from Saga to Mansarovar. Saga is the second civilised town after entering the China region, where pilgrims stay for a day to get acclimatised during Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Saga is a place where maximum people fell sick, due to the sudden height gain compared to Kyerong . This is also where the landscape changes. From lush green landscape to the rugged barren land but unbelievably beautiful

But, as excited as I was to see the Lake Mansarovar and view of Mount Kailash, I couldn’t resist watching for a glimpse. Fortunately, we were staying at the guest house which was just in front of the lake. On my insistence, the team allowed me to take a look but as I walked closer, pat came a voice from behind- that’s not a time that you should be standing here. That’s NO ordinary lake. It’s time of divine intervention. Stunned to read this? I was too and therefore continue reading !

It is believed that some celestial bodies and sapta rishis (the seven sages) descend on to this lake in the form of some visible light everyday during Brahma Muhurt (awakening) time, to take a holy dip and then leave. That’s a story which was told to me by one of the person, who himself witnessed this phenomenon twice on his last 5 visits to Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. He said that he is not alone because this highly mysterious phenomenon has been conspicuously observed by a lot of people with wonder. Even, Wikipedia backs this claim.

But as they say, only lucky ones get a chance to see this, as it is believed to be a moment of few seconds. We did get up on two nights and wished to see it ourselves. But, it was raining most of the time, while we were here and therefore we weren’t able to spot anything. For a moment though, we did spot the milky way, tad 3: 30 AM in the morning which appeared in front of our eyes out of nowhere. But, nevertheless, felt so surreal
But, this is not the experience that I am talking about. There is something which happened with me here which made me believe that Lake Mansarovar completely owns up to its name- THE MIND LAKE.
An Unusual Experience at Lake Mansarovar during Kailash Mansarovar Yatra
So this story is fast forwarded to our day three at the Mansarovar Lake. As I was busy shooting with the team, I was told that I am missing on something by not taking a dip here. They say that the water of Mansarovar lake has a lot of good energy because of divine intervention and the reason that it is considered holy and almost every pilgrim on Mount Kailash Yatra take a dip here

I have been avoiding this because it was freezing here and I wasn’t feeling well too. (Okay honest confession- I was prepared to brave this but my team was successful in brainwashing me, so that they can escape too)
But this person was adamant; as he told me that the dip might just open up doors to the blocked things in my life, as he paused for a minute, stunned, after telling me this. ‘I don’t know Swati, why I told it to you and only to you. But you should go for this dip, even if you ain’t feeling well. You are missing out an incredible experience.’
‘But I am not feeling well. And the weather is too cold and windy for me to consider’ I said. ‘You will be fine. Go for it’ He said. And as I agreed, a magic happened
The weather was cold when we were at Mansarovar but the unpredictability of weather at the mountains that it is, I was blessed with immediate sunshine just as I went ahead for the holy dip.
And this is what I felt after my dip in the holy Lake Mansarovar
I still share this with people because I am still to understand what exactly happened. I sensed a strange sensation all over my body, post the dip as if something was coming out. I couldn’t move for 5 minutes because these vibrations were so strong that my body heat up. I experienced these strange vibrations for close to 15 mins, post which I went silent, completely into the Zen mode

This was the moment that though it got windy again but something in me was telling me to sit by the side of this Lake. My team kept telling me not to sit in front of the lake as well, as I just took a bath and wind can harm me but I couldn’t help and took this decision because I felt like my MIND wanted to tell me a 100 things.
And as I sit near the lake, closed my eyes and took a breathe- THERE I GOT THE ANSWERS I WAS LOOKING FOR! It came in front of my eyes like a zap. Vanished. Zap. Vanished!
You can say that I am making up a sensational story here but this is what I exactly felt. In all honesty! As I opened my eyes and got up to admit that I certainly, could have missed on something, if this person wouldn’t have pushed.
Today, I thank my stars from the bottom of my heart for giving me this opportunity to be at Kailash Mansarovar Yatra so early in my life. And as I said, Lake Mansarovar stands to its name- The Mind Lake
